EMT Course Information

EMGM-105a  EMT – National Registry

This course covers the techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the ill and injured within the scope of practice and standard of care of Emergency Medical Technicians. The course content is based upon the State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority requirements referenced in Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 2, Article L of the California Administrative Code. Course approval is with San Diego County Emergency Medical Services. Upon successful course completion, the candidate will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician cognitive examination for Emergency Medical Technicians.

EMGM-106   EMT- Defibrillation/Combitube

This is a twelve-hour course covering all techniques required of the certified Emergency Medical Technician to perform the optional skill of pre-hospital defibrillation for victims of cardiac arrest. Course content includes student demonstration of skill proficiency in Basic Life Support, Airway Management and recognition/ management of patients requiring pre-hospital defibrillation. The student must be employed with an approved Provider Agency in order to receive accreditation from the San Diego County Division of Emergency Medical Services.

EMGM 350  EMT-I Recertification

This 32-hour non-associate degree course provides the certified Emergency Medical Technician-I with a review of didactic knowledge and practical skills required to maintain certification (recertify), in compliance with State of California EMT-I regulations. The course includes a review of current San Diego County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) treatment guidelines, anatomy, patient assessment, recognition and treatment of life threatening emergencies, emergency childbirth, behavioral emergencies, ambulance operations, triage, disaster scene management and environmental emergencies. This course may be repeated as necessary to meet a legally mandated training requirement as a condition of continued or volunteer employment.

EMGM 050  CPR for Healthcare Providers

This course covers basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) based on current American Heart Association standards. It teaches one-person, two-person, child, and infant CPR as well as foreign body airway obstruction, bag-valve-mask and mouth-to-mask ventilation, and automated external defibrillator (AED) use. This certification course satisfies the EMGM-105a prerequisite for Healthcare Provider CPR.

EMGM 296  Individual Instruction in Emergency Medical Technician

This course is designed to provide supplemental instruction to reinforce learning in the EMGM-105a course. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 48 hours for successful course completion. This section must be taken concurrently with EMGM-105a. Students seeking additional EMT instruction to pass the NREMT exammust concurrently enroll in the EMGM-350 course.
